The first trip of the season for GuysOnGolf is a two round, weekend getaway to Vancouver Island- and we’ll take you through it with our videos and pictures, so you can see it before you try it yourself.
We will be staying at the luxurious Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf resort and Spa, just steps away from the first tee box of our first round on the Mountain Course. We will also get you the inside scoop on a second course being built at Bear Mountain along with a full driving range and golf academy when we chat with President and CEO Len Barrie. Barrie, one of many former and current NHLers who own share in this one of a kind golf resort and we will tell you that story as well.
We will also tee it up at the The Arbutus Ridge Golf Club, located just outside of of Duncan. One of GolfBC’s finest boasts three of the toughest finishing holes on Vancouver Island, but let us check it out to be sure. We will also chat with the GM Jason Lowe to find out what else makes this a must play for your upcoming Island golf getaway.
Special thanks to Helijet who will zip us back and forth from Victoria with will all our golf gear making this trip a smooth one. Also special thanks to our new sponsors Russell Brewing and Beaver Buzz Energy drink.
Stay tuned for our photos and videos of this entire trip at GuysOnGolf.com.
That’s right folks- Helijet has signed on as a new sponsor, and will be flying our crew to the island for a weekend of golf. Vancouver to Victoria in 35 minutes…by HELICOPTER!
Jeff announces the new sponsor:
Update: Helijet has just added us to their homepage, and their “we recommend” section as well!
This weekend, Feb 16 and 17 is the Vancouver Golf and Travel Show, and we’re gonna be there. We’ll be working the floor, handing out cards and flyers, so keep an eye out for us and feel free to say hi.

A Few Facts About Guys on Golf
This site was created during a round of golf at Burnaby’s Riverway Golf Course, when the four of us decided that we wanted an outlet to document the fun we have on the golf course. We operate the site on our own time, and we have no operating budget. Through the kindness and generosity of our sponsors, we are able to keep motivated (Mmmm…beeeer) to continue to deliver our own brand of clever, fun and RELEVANT course reviews. We tell you the kind of stuff you want to know, like what the drinking rules are, whether there’s a beer cart (and whether there’s a beer cart girl, of course) and we give you the straight facts about the service, difficulty and shape of the course.
A word or two about Sponsorship: Each year, we hit the streets looking for sponsors so we can afford to keep doing this. It’s that time of year again, and the Golf Show is a perfect time to start a conversation about how you can get involved. Each deal is agreed upon separately but always includes: links from our site, plenty of product placement, and exclusivity (we won’t enlist one of your competitors once you’ve signed on).
If you’re interested in becoming a sponsor of Guys on Golf, email Jeff ( sportsobserver@ yahoo.com if that link doesn’t work ) and ask how you can align yourself with the best damn golf site/show/podcast in BC. See you at the Show!
After every round on our Kelowna trip, we presented the low net winner with the prestigious Plaid Jacket, not to be confused with The Masters’ Green Jacket, which we spoof hard here.
Hosted by Wesley Behan in the role of Hootie Johnson, we present Jeremy Dobson with what we’ve since dubbed “The Al Czervik Award,” after Rodney Dangerfield’s character in Caddyshack. Click to view:
It should be noted as well that all jacket presentations occur after a long day of golf in the sun, and several celebratory cocktails…
As per the rules, Jeremy wore the jacket all night, and as predicted, he was quite a hit with the ladies.
We played Gallagher’s Canyon, The Bear and The Quail- and we also spent time on Okanagan Lake, as well as Vernon’s Kalamalka Lake.
On one of our off days, we ventured up to 19 Greens for a putt-around, and the group loved it.
Good times were had by all…videos and additional photos are still to come. The Facebook group is already displaying some great photos from the trip, so be sure and check it out…and if you haven’t already, join!
A big hello to everyone we’ve met here in Kelowna already, as we publish this report on Day 3 of our weeklong adventure.
Tuesday was Gallagher’s Canyon, and today was our triumphant tour of The Bear. Fun was had byall, and the fun is still in progress. So much fun in fact- that videos, and extra photos will have to wait until I (Jordan) can get back to my desk and get posting end editing.
If you’re just joining us, leave a comment on any post (click a headline and the page that loads will have a comment form) and say hello!
(R to L: Jordan, Wes, Ryan and Jeff at Gallaghers Canyon)
They chat about the awe-inspiring #1 hole where you tee off the top deck in front of everyone, and Jeff mentions how last year they were offering iced cherries at the start!
We’re excited to be heading up to Kelowna next week to play Gallagher’s The Bear and The Quail all in one week. Take a sneak peek at the #6 hole at Gallagher’s:
